Goals/Objectives — Why this project?

I chose this project as a part of my online course on Fundamental of UX design at The Gymnasium. My objective for this project is to find a particular customer, discover their pain points, and deliver an idea to improve their flight booking experience.

Design Thinking Process

Design Thinking Process

Empathise

To start my user research, I interviewed three users to know their experience while booking a flight. All three users had different reasons to travel and different goals while booking a flight. For the interview, I scheduled a 15 min phone call with each person. During the call, I asked them quantitative questions like :
How frequently do you book a flight?

Which website/app do you prefer?

What is the reason for your travel?
.
.
To gather some qualitative data, I asked the users to book a flight while we were on the call. I asked them to talk out loud and describe what they’re doing, their thoughts, goals, and problems. After getting the data, I grouped the user goals and problems in a user map.

User Map

Define

Based on the results of my research I could define my Persona trying to summarise all the information I got in one sentence.

‘User is a college student who wants to fly cheap.’

User Persona

I did this to make it easier to build my persona, and give a focus during the rest of my process.

Ideate

After observing my persona and user research, I figured out that all three of them had problems navigating through the websites on their mobile phones and finding the best-suited prices. The common main goal among them is to find the best price.

User Story

Priya is a college student who wants to fly back to her home. She is checking different websites to get the best price. When she accessed BookMyFlight, she could compare and find the best flight from hundreds of flight booking websites in one place. In BookMyFlight, she can easily filter and sort flights according to her priority. When she had found her best flight, she would be forwarded to the booking website to complete her booking.

Prototyping

Sketch with pen and Paper

Based on my sketches and user flow, I created Low- Fidelity wire frames.

User Test

I tested the Low-Fidelity wire frames with four different people. Following are the suggestions:

  1. Better and appealing Home page.
  2. More than one booking website suggestion.
  3. A page in between search page and connecting page for a better examination of options.
  4. Filters to get only the highest-reviewed booking website.

Design

I created a High-Fidelity design of my project using all the suggestions and user research.

Home Page and Search Results
Flight Details and Connecting Page to the Booking site

Conclusion

The goal of the project was to deliver an idea that improves the flight booking experience. My main focus was to design an interface that involves a minimum number of steps to book a desirable flight.

I accomplished this by adopting a design that compares and gives the best prices to the users with a healthy interface. The user can book the best flight with three single steps.

The final product reflects the ease to find the best flight without surfing the whole internet for one.

That’s a wrap, for now! If you liked my case study, claps would be appreciated.

Let me know what you think in the comment section below, all feedback is welcome!
